Angel Locsin on working with Maricel Soriano: Hindi ko inambisyon na masampal nya

FIVE years is quite a long while to rest from the lime lights.

But the superwoman we came to know as TV and filmdom’s Angel Locsin is back on track. No! Not to fly the sky as “Darna” anymore. She has accepted the fact that it is now an assignment meant to trigger a Liza Soberano’s flight.

She is “The General’s Daughter” starting January 21 in ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Primetime Bida.

In her solo presscon recently, Angel opened up her heart to her media friends.

She admitted that there came a point in her life when she no longer has that confidence in whatever she was doing especially in her career.

“Nagsimula naman ako na ang goal ko eh  kumita para sa pamilya ko. Hanggang sa naiba na ‘yun. And given the chance to work with mahuhusay at beterano eh, isang malaking oportunidad na ipagpapasalamat. Kaya ang feeling ko nagsisimula lang ako uli. Marami ng nagbago sa paligid natin.

“Hindi ako pinayagang mag-resign nina Tita Cory (Vidanes) and Sir Carlo (Katigbak). Nandoon pa rin ang tiwala. Kaya malaking pasasalamat sa Dreamscape Entertainment sa tiwala nila para ibigay ang proyektong ito sa akin.

“Now I have learned to face the demons inside of me. To face the reality na hindi ako lang ito. Sa pag-arte, maaalala ko ang ‘Nay Amy Austria ko sa “Mulawin.” ‘Pag nagbo-voice over kami. Tinatanong ko kung bakit siya umiiyak. Doon ko natutunan na hindi ini-echos ‘yun para maramdaman ng mga manonood.”

She had good words for her leading men-JC de Vera and Paulo Avelino.

But with the Diamond Star?

“Unang salang ko, siya agad ang ka-eksena ko. Hindi ko pa siya naka-trabaho kaya kabado ako. Alam ko take 1 actress siya. Kaya nangapa pa ako sa character ko. Ang galing niya. Hindi madamot. Pero, hindi ko inambisyon na masampal niya, ng isang Maricel Soriano. Na dumapo ang legendary sampal sa pisngi o mukha ko.”

Angel did not just a bit of action in her scenes here, too.

“Hindi ako usually nagpapa-double. Pero there was this scene na kailangan kong lumubog sa Manila Bay. Eh nung makita kong lumulutang ‘yung isda, sabi ko ‘yung taga-tubig nga ‘di na kinaya, eh. Dun lang. Alam mo na. Skin diseases. Hindi ko kinaya. Hindi naman sa pagi-inarte. Kasi ang daming kakailanganin kong gawin. Anti-tetanus shots. Ilang injections. Isda nga ‘di kinaya, ‘di ba? Pero sa ibang action shots, nag-undergo pa rin ako ng Krav Maga for my fight scenes, knife fighting, muay thai. Pag sasalang ako sa action scenes, nagpapa-PT (Physical Therapy) na ako a day before.”

Truths and lies. That is what her character as Rhian Navarro will find out in her life as the general’s daughter.

A salute to the comebacking queen!

*****

I JUST came to know Joaquin Garcia as a balladeer. And yes, a very good one.

On several occasions  I would hear him belt out songs and his version or renditon can be at par with the original singer of whatever song he covers.

Now, the good news is that singer-songwriter David Foster has included him in the roster of Filipino talents he has helped, pushed and developed. Like Charice Pempengco (now more popularly known as Jake Zyrus).

How did it come about?

“Nabigla nga ako hahaha but not expecting too much . After I sang on stage… he asked me directly to stay in the dressing room. And again asked me to sing and I was even guided by Brian Mcknight. We were singing together. Then he was giving me some pointers na in case I will do a big show daw. Doon ako nagulat.”

He added, “he was impressed daw on how I managed to do the crescendo and decrescendo sa kinanta ko. From low key to high notes.

“Sabi ko naman sa kanya na, Filipinos have heart and soul everytime they hold the microphone. And he agreed.

“He even arranged the song “Just Once” for me. And very soon I am flying to the US to meet with him and to the collaboration and more projects. As in tours in the US. Next month.”

Cliché as Joaquin would put it, that he will do his best to be the country’s pride.

And a lot of people are believing in the guy’s talent. To be really at par with the other celebrities the David Foster has worked with.

Huwag lang lalaki ang ulo. And he promised that he will constantly keep that in mind!
