CJ Cansino returns to court
A year of no UAAP basketball action and a second ACL injury can be major career threats.
But King Maroon CJ Cansino showed no wear or tear at all as he notched 19 points highlighted by five 3’s in his return to court in Season 86. The sweet-shooting cager’s awesome offensive talent lifted the UP Fighting Maroons to a 68-51 season opener win over the Adamson Soaring Falcons, October 1 in the main game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

At the post-game press conference, the six-foot-two team captain stressed how overwhelmed with joy he was to finally don the maroon jersey again on the big stage of the UAAP.
He also apologized for over-celebrating yesterday during the match. Overcome with emotion, he thumped his chest and ferociously proclaimed to the UP crowd, “I’m back!!” It is not in his nature to showboat, he said.

“Una sa lahat, nag-sosorry ako sa mga fans [at] sa mga coaches sa naging asta ko kanina. Alam kong ‘di ako ganun and hopefully I’ll do better next game,” said the former UAAP Rookie of the Year.
CJ fervently wishes for an injury-free season, something we hope for all student-athletes this UAAP Season 86.
