Thirsting for more!
This was what pushed Ryza Cenon to get out of her comfort zone and after 12 years of enjoying her life as a Kapuso and an Artist Center talent, she decided to sign a 5-year contract with Viva Films.
“My contract with Artist Center ended noong February pa. But I don’t have a contract with GMA-7, the network. Pero nung mag-decide ako to meet with Viva when they showed intention na they want to get me, ‘yun ang isang nilinaw ko rin with GMA-7 and Boss Vic. Na I will still be a Kapuso. Kumbaga, priority pa rin sila. Pero kung saan ako ilalagay, like lalabas with sa iba pa, okay din naman.
“Am not getting any younger. In December, I will be 30 years old na. Naisip ko naman na gusto ko pa ring maging aktres. So, wala namang bad blood with me, GMA and Artist Center.”
According to Boss Vic (del Rosario), “Magagandang projects ang inihahanda namin for Ryza.”
Asked if she would be more daring this time, Ryza said that she has already shown everything in her movie, “Manananggal.”
“Yun na hopefully ang first and last na nabigay ko na ang lahat. Ang gusto ko naman dun sa project na ‘yun, naalagaan ako talaga ni direk (Prime Cruz). And the staff. When I was required to do the masturbation scene, talagang maski si direk wala dun sa room at lahat ng staff, babae.”
That was also where she and boyfriend Cholo Barretto got to know each other.
“And gusto ko rin lang linawin na Cholo had nothing to do with my signing up with Viva. Sarili ko itong desisyon. Kaya, wala siyang pakialam sa akin. May kanya-kanya pa rin naman kaming desisyon.”
Nine months of being together, tying the knot is definitely out of the question.
“Still in the getting-to-know each other stage. We both are busy with work. Kaya madalas hindi magkita ang schedule. Every other day ang taping ko ng “Ika-Anim na Utos.” Isa ‘yan sa hiniling ko with Viva na huwag na rin pakialaman o galawin my existing soap.”
The project which she is so fond of because of her character.
“Grabe ang bashing sa akin dahil sa character ko. And madalas, ang tagal ko bago mabitawan ‘yung character ko. Kaya naibubunton ko madalas kay Cholo. Pero he understands. And isa ‘yun sa mga nagustuhan ko sa kanya. Mabait. At filled with humor.”
Ryza’s being in showbiz was not an accident although she was not keen on being in it.
“Sinabihan lang ako ng brother ko na -i-try ko mag-audition. And ‘yun na. Ako pa ‘yung nanalo in “Starstruck Batch 2” with Mikael Daez. Inalagaan naman ako ng husto ng GMA Artist Center at pamilya na ang turing nila sa akin.
“This was a tough decision to make. Daig pa nito ‘yung nakipag-break ka sa boyfriend mo. Ganon kasakit. But like what i said, hindi pa rin ako totally bitaw with them. I’m considering projects like soaps, priority sila. And sa ibang bagay, like endorsements call na ng Viva ‘yun.”
Ryza’s other comfort zone is in mountain climbing.
Halway to the stars? Like what she’s doing now with her stars in showbiz.
“Syempre naman, sino bang artista ang ayaw na magka-award? O ma-recognize sa pinagpapaguran niya. Kaya what I am hoping now is for my own growth din as an actress. Kaya, gusto ko naman gumawa ng movies.”
She’s pining to have John Lloyd Cruz as her leading man.
“Naku! Super fan ako ng Sarah (Geronimo) and Lloydie!”
Will her wish be granted?
