Si Manang Imee. And when you mention the name, syempre MARCOS ang maiisip.

Running? No!

Na-miss niya lang the entertainment press. Because then, she had all the time in the world na ipatawag ang entertainment press. Just so, she would know what the industry needs. Just like that morning at Max’s Quezon Avenue.

She wanted to meet the entertainment press for certain topics to discuss. To consult.

Like FDCP’s (Film Development Council of the Philippines) Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

“What went wrong? That in spite of the films we send abroad, winning left and right, hindi kumikita. Wala tayo problema with the kind of movies we produce. We need more push when it comes to marketing and distribution. I commend Chairman Liza for what she is doing.

“Where is the movie industry now? Is the MTRCB still relevant? Because during my father’s time, ang alam ko temporary lang ‘yan. So the laws in it should be reviewed na rin and amended. That was the time of the Golden Age of Cinema. And I wish for it to be back again.

“The issue on our National Artist. Yes. Dapat si Nora (Aunor) na or even Dolphy. Ano ba ang plano natin?”

Though Ilocos Norte has been her baluarte and comfort zone for the past 9 years as its Governor, ever now and then, Manang Imee comes down to Manila to check on other projects in line with her projects in Ilocos.

Things that has something to do about unemployment and migration, garlic buyback, public service (check-up and medicines), tourism summer program for the students and senior citizens and Kadiwa for the farmers.

“And with that, kasali ang concern ko sa entertainment. Kubg ang the true, the good and the beautiful eh, sa Nanay ko at kay Iren, ang mga pang-kulturada effect, na kay manang Imee niyo ang love for the Pinoy films. Lumaki ako dyan. At an early age, nasa TV na ang mundo ko with “Kulit Bulilit” and “Kaluskos Musmos.” And while I was growing up with my Kabataang Barangay hit, dahil ayaw ko lang makulong sa Malacañang at palibutan ng mga PSG, larga ako nang larga. At na-observe ko na rin that time na mas effective ang may TV show ka o pelikula, pati na komiks kesa ang salansan ng mga speeches na hindi naman papakinggan.

“Sa komiks ako natuto mag-Tagalog. Sa bahay kasi, Ilocano ang salita noon at Bisaya. Eh, tumigas ang dila ko when I studied in London. Kaya natuto ako magbasa ng komiks para dumirecho ang pananagalog ko.

“Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) came to be. Nauna pa tayo sa Manila Film Festival sa ating mga karatig bansa. Pero bakit may Busan na? May Tokyo Film Festival na. May Bollywood ang India. Even ang Nigeria. What happened to Manila. The Philippines. Bakit tayo napagiiwanan. Kaya natutuwa ako kay Liza dahil sa pagsusumikap niya maiangat ang pelikulang Pilipino. Na kaya ko rin naman kayo sinasangguni eh, para malaman ano ba ang kailangan pa nating gawin?”

In Ilocos Norte, Manang Imee has laid out several activities for the culture and the arts.

“Nagiging location hunter na kami para sa movies and teleseryes na doon ginagawa to promote the province. Both foreign and local. Malaki ang utang na loob ng tatay ko sa pelikula.”

The Daddy’s girl would like to continue the legacy the Dad has started in the movie industry.

But Manang Imee continues to be the epitome of the province of Ilocos Norte’s “Nanay” in her comfort zone- Ina, Matatag, Ehemplo, at Eksakto.

She has launched a short film contest featuring Ilocos Norte Tourism. Check it out at facebook.com/imeemarcos.

DAHIL ANG PAG-IBIG DAW, hindi basta lang nakakalimutan, new director Fifth Solomon created a film entitled “Nakalimutan Ko Nang kalimutan Ka.”

20180907_153717

And Alex easily said yes when Fifth told her that he’s doing the film already.

“And I know din naman na I would easily say yes! Kasi, kahit nakakakaba, nandun naman ang tiwala.”

So, Alex was asked kung sino na ang nakalimutan niyang kalimutan in her past relationships.

“Kung meron akong kinalimutan, oo. Ooops Hindi si Kean (Cipriano), ‘yun ha?! Non-showbiz!”

Nakalimutan na ba natin kung sino nga?
