It’s true that Baby Go is always on the go.
After “Balatkayo” megged by Direk Neal ‘Buboy’ Tan early this year, before 2017 ended, she had her cast and crew shoot in the awesome places in Italy for “Almost A Lovestory” (directed by Louie Ignacio featuring Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio).
PSR had the chance to chat with award-winning production designer Rafael “Apols” Salonga for the look he created with Barbie and Derrick.
“After 30 years of long absence from the entertainment work, medyo na overwhelm ako for the trust given by Dennis (Evangelista, line producer) direk Louie, Miss Jean (Madam Baby’s daughter who went with us to Italy), and our producer Madam Baby. Wow, Dennis sent me the script on the day of the Press Con. The day I also said yes to the project. No pre prod meeting. Just a few minutes encounter with Direk Louie , Derrick and Barbie. I only had a day and a half to prepare the requirements especially the wardrobes. I had to beg steal or borrow. I bought a few items. But the bulk of the winter outfits just for Barbie and Derrick were borrowed from cousins and my sons. I was nervous for the first shoot. First salang sa trabaho. First outfit for Barbie. Nobody saw yet what I prepared. 💥 Bang 💥 Direk Louie said it must be pretty for Barbie and for the character. I hand carried the one I prepared. The one I anticipated based on the script only. Without output from the director. The outcome. Barbie turned out to be so pretty. Barbie liked it. Everybody loved it. I was relieved. So as we went along the shooting. Smooth naman. Magaling si Direk Louie. We worked before in the Advertising. Derrick and Barbie are very easy to work with. Very responsible in taking care of the clothes I asked them to wear for their characters. Lot Lot (de Leon) and Ana (Capri) are very professional. Ang hirap ng one man Art Department. Nakaraos din sa Italy. I would like to make mention of Diana Evangelista and Jel Capistrano of GMA Artist who helped me out in taking care of the wardrobe and carrying them around. Thanks to those 2. The rest are all cool. Yun lang.”
What else were required?
“I disagreed on the Bohemian look that the script depicted. I totally deviated from the Bohemian look. I read the script. The character and the relationships of the cast. Not Bohemian at all. Good Direk Louie agreed. He made a lot of changes and pre-edited the scenes. Maganda. Galing nilang lahat.
“Most of the pics were posted by Dennis in the different locations. The movie will be rich in textures. Drab colors because winter is really drab. The scenic views of Salento will also be highlighted because sayang naman ‘yung ganda ng Salento, Italy.”
GMA-7 will have a hand as to when “Almost A Lovestory” will hit the local screens. As of now, Madam Baby already has invitations to have the movie’s screenings in Salento and most parts of Italy.
And at the start of the Year 2018, BG Productions International started to grind for the other movie that had its storycon months ago alongside with “Almost A Lovestory.” “Latay” featuring Allen Dizon and directed by Ralston Jover had its first shooting day on the first day of the year at Sta. Rita, Minalin, Pampanga to be part of the Aguman Sanduk Festival.
Said line-producer Dennis who came up with the idea of Allen’s character as a battered husband, he saw the festival being featured in a show months ago.
“May connect sa movie ‘yung parang several of roles ng babae at lalake. In the said festival, mga nagsusuot babae ang mga lalake. Hindi sila bading. For more than 80 years now, naging tradisyon na nila ito. Na nagsimula nung magkaroon ng tagtuyot sa bayan nila. At may nakaisip na magluto sila at magdiwang pa rin inspite of. At dun pumasok ‘yung para ma-entertain na rin ang lahat, nagsuot sila ng mga damit pambabae dahil sila ang nagluto at may hawak ng nga sandok.”
The festival will be part of the movie’s highlights. And will once again catapult Allen to the role he knows best these days. That of being a best if not a great actor!
Two for the road and more. This week, three more films fron BG will be launched. Another Louie Ignacio, a Mel Chionglo and a Joel Lamangan.
A story of a woman experiencing midlife crisis, life with the hobbits, and the ordeal of a teacher. Big stars will be in each project!
Madam Baby is just too happy to be able to help more workers in the industry.
Talk about blessings!
